How to get your business cited by ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI answers

By CubesCenter · 10 October 2026 · 7 min read

More buyers in the UAE now start with a question to an AI assistant instead of a list of blue links. “Best fit-out company in Dubai for a small office.” “Where can I buy a certified pre-owned G-Class?” The answer they get usually names a handful of businesses, sometimes with a link. If yours is one of them, you are on the shortlist before the buyer has visited a single website. If it is not, you are invisible for that question.

This guide explains how those answers are put together and what you can do about it, without tricks and without paying for ads.

How AI assistants decide which businesses to mention

When someone asks a question that needs current, local information, today’s assistants search the web first and then write an answer from what they find. Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode build on Google’s own search index. ChatGPT’s search feature, Gemini and Perplexity also pull live web results and show the sources they used.

So the question “how do I get cited by AI?” is mostly the question “how do I become one of the best sources on the web for the things my customers ask?” The businesses that get named tend to have:

  • Pages that answer the question directly, in plain language, near the top of the page.
  • Clear facts about the business that are easy to extract: what you sell, where you are, prices or ranges, opening hours.
  • Consistent information across the web: the same name, address and description on your site, your Google Business Profile, directories and articles that mention you.
  • Pages that search engines have actually indexed, in both Google and Bing.

Seven things that make your business easier to cite

  1. Answer real customer questions on your own website. Collect the questions your sales team hears every week and give each one a clear answer on a page of its own. A guide titled “How much does a small office fit-out cost in Dubai?” is far more citable than a services page that says “we deliver excellence”.
  2. Give every product, service and location its own page. AI answers are specific. A single page that lists everything you do is hard to quote; one page per service is easy.
  3. Add structured data (schema). Schema markup tells search engines in a machine-readable way that a page is an article, a product, a local business or a list of FAQs. It removes guesswork. See our guide on schema and llms.txt.
  4. Keep your Google Business Profile active. Regular posts, accurate details, photos and replies to reviews. Google’s AI answers and map results lean heavily on this profile for local searches.
  5. Get mentioned in more places than your own site. Republished articles, directory listings, press coverage and partner pages all add evidence that your business is real and relevant. Assistants are more confident recommending a business that several independent sources describe the same way.
  6. Make sure Google and Bing have indexed you. Submit your sitemap in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Bing is easy to forget, but several assistants rely on web results beyond Google.
  7. Publish consistently and check the results every month. One article does little. A steady stream of useful pages adds up, and monthly checks show which questions you already win and which you do not.

What does not work

  • Mass-produced, thin AI content. Google’s spam policies specifically target pages produced at scale with little value. They can hurt the whole site.
  • Anyone who guarantees a citation. Nobody controls what an AI model says. Ask for the work and the measurement instead.
  • Hidden text or keyword stuffing aimed at AI crawlers. It is easy to detect and works against you.

How long it takes

Technical fixes and indexing improvements can show within weeks. Being named in AI answers for competitive questions usually takes three to six months of consistent publishing, because the assistants need enough good material about you to draw on. You can see what that looks like for a Dubai car dealer in our results section.

Where to start

Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Google ten questions your customers would ask, and write down who gets mentioned. That is your baseline. If you would rather we do it, request a free AI visibility check and we will send you the screenshots.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay to be recommended inside a ChatGPT or Google AI answer?

You cannot buy your way into the answer itself. The assistant writes it from the sources it finds. What you can do is become one of those sources by publishing clear, useful, well-structured information about your business.

Do I need a new website to get cited by AI?

Usually not. Most of the work is adding pages that answer customer questions, fixing structured data, and keeping your Google Business Profile and other listings consistent. An existing site is normally a fine starting point.

How do I know if AI assistants are mentioning my business?

Ask them. Run the same set of buyer questions in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google each month and record who is mentioned and linked. That is exactly what our monthly AI Visibility Report does.
